When attempting to remove or check the condition of the zinc (not visible until the brass plug is completely removed from the engine), the scale build up will jam the pencil into the cavity and the brass plug will unscrew from the pencil. Result: the zinc falls into the cooling system causing blockage of water circulation. Your engines are the most expensive equipment on your boat and less attention is paid to the engine zincs because they are never visible. Also not visible is the corrosion that may be eating away at the internal parts of the cooling system which could eventually cause your boat to sink! The brass plug is reusable and may make all other zincs pencils obsolete!
